Varanasi girl leaves her high paying job in MNC to join Indian Army

Leaving a high paying job of a multinational company a local girl has joined Indian Army to serve the nation. Aparna Rai, 23, would be commissioned as Lieutenant in the Indian Army following her passing out parade at the Officers' Training Academy in Chennai on March 10.

Her parents are leaving for Chennai on Thursday to see their daughter in army uniform at the passing out parade. "It will be a proud moment for us to see our daughter becoming the part of Indian Army," Aparna's father Ashok Rai, a businessman, told TOI.

Aparna did her engineering from NIT Srinagar and after graduation in 2016, she went on to join a US-based company in Chennai for a brief time before she, in 2016, decided to leave everything to follow her passion of joining Indian Army. She cleared the SSB held in Allahabad in her first attempt in 2017 and was at the second position in the technical entry merit list, said Rai adding that she left her high paying job in March 2017 to join her training at OTA Chennai in April 2017.

Youngest of the three siblings, Aparna was one of the school toppers in X board in school and went on to clear AIEEE to join NIT Kashmir in 2016. "It was the motivation of her mother that she developed a passion for the tough job of armed services," said Rai, a native of Ghazipur district currently living in Dafi area of Varanasi. Aparna's mother Chintamani Rai is a homemaker.
